A contractor was helping a chemically sensitive member of his church with mold inspection and clean up. Initially, the contractor sent a few tape samples for my review under the microscope. Then, some months later, he called to schedule an on-site mold inspection with the microscope.
I worked for a good half-day testing many surfaces and possessions and discussing remediation procedures with the contractor and the son of the homeowner. On the following day, they were having about a half dozen volunteers from the church come over to the house and deal with possessions, i.e., cleaning or discarding them, readying them for storage. Volunteers were to wear N95 respirators.
Following that phase of the project, the contractor was set to start gutting the lower level of the house. High levels of mold were known to be present behind some of the walls, but all the walls showed evidence of some mold contamination.
Follow-up testing to confirm that mold is gone and airborne levels of stray spores are within acceptable limits is anticipated.
from the son of the owner: "Thank you for coming last Thursday to do an inspection and listing the types of mold present for my mother's doctor. Knowing the location of the mold as well as the cleanup information you have provided are invaluable. Now that I know how to take tape samples, I'm sure I will be sending you more as we clean the downstairs area and also before we move my mom to a more permanent residence. In case you were wondering, removing items from the downstairs area went very well. Thanks again." -CD from the contractor: "Again thank you for your work with us last week on the identification of problem mold areas. Craig and I met with a realtor on Tuesday to get input on what needed to be cleaned up for sale. I have purchased a Nilfisk Eliminator I HEPA vac and anticipate starting that phase of the cleanup on Friday.
| As you know, before you visited the house, I was planning to have a group of people come in to help in discarding the contaminated contents of a house that had mold damage. However, I did not know what was contaminated and what was not. I did not want to discard items that were memories of years in missionary service in Africa and the Philippines. Within a short period of time, you identified through tape samples and the use of the microscope the extent of the mold contamination. From your expertise, we were able to save many of the artifacts. The basement contained many problem areas and remediation is now underway. Your experience has saved us thousands of dollars and many happy memories that we are still able to enjoy." -BD contractor, Royersford, PA |
